Verein Kinderärzte Zug

About ourselves

Networking
We promote cooperation with one another, as well as with the specialist offices in Zug that look after the well-being of children and their families.

Support
We help parents and children in the Canton of Zug and the surrounding areas to find information about health issues and the corresponding contacts in a simple and targeted manner.

Positioning
We provide a joint public voice for basic paediatric care in Canton Zug. This should contribute to the optimisation of health policy with regard to paediatric care.

Seven paediatric practices are currently involved in the association, with a total of 15 doctors.
The association is a non-profit organisation, and is independent of any kind of sponsorship. There is a regular exchange of information with other organisations that are politically active at the cantonal and federal level.

Networking
Paediatricians nominated by the VKZ are available to the individual specialist offices and institutions for questions with regard to cooperation and conceptual development, and thereby guarantee the flow of information to paediatricians.

Support
We publish information and links on our website that could be helpful to you with regard to your everyday family and professional life with children.
Please click here for further information.

The association regularly invites specialist offices to joint meetings and to exchanges of specialist information.
The members of the association are integrated into the zu:care medical network, and, as a quality assurance measure, organise at least 4 quality circulars a year.
The association members also operate a paediatric consultation service in the Aegeri Valley area, as well as assisting with the organisation and planning of the cantonal emergency service.

Positioning
The population of the Canton of Zug is growing at an above-average rate compared to the rest of Switzerland. Of the 125,421 registered residents of Canton Zug in 2017, around 25,369 were children and adolescents. This group requires specific medical care, which we paediatricians provide around the clock, working together with the local children’s hospitals around the clock.

In order to maintain their health, preventive measures that improve child care, strengthen parental competence and systematically promote child development are essential. This is all the more the case because the practical skills required for raising and caring for children are hardly passed on from generation to generation any more in modern family structures. It is therefore no surprise to us that healthcare costs for this age category are rising rapidly.

With our knowledge and experience, we want to contribute to the development of innovative approaches to improve the health literacy of parents in Zug. Children and adolescents would primarily benefit from this, and, secondarily, our healthcare system.

We are convinced that quality in paediatric care for children and adolescents can only be maintained in the medium and long term through a fair cooperation between the various “players”. That is why we are also striving to obtain consensus decisions at the political level that are supported by the majority of the people who are responsible.

SARS-CoV-2-testing in children

26. August 2020

Dear parents,

the COVID-19 pandemic continues to keep us alert.

Fortunately in the course of the last few months it has been confirmed that our patients, especially toddlers and infants, are only very rarely affected by COVID-19. Children usually show only mild symptoms or even no symptoms at all. On the other hand, they frequently develop viral respiratory infections in autumn and winter.

For this reason the BAG has adjusted the test strategy for children under 12 years of age (as of July 2, 2020): In contrast to adolescents and adults children under 12 years of age with respiratory symptoms do not directly have to be tested. Exceptions are tests as part of cantonal contact tracing and tests on hospitalized children.

Your treating pediatrician provides the indication for a test! Care facilities should not insist on SARS-CoV-2-tests for children!

It is still important that symptomatic children of all ages stay at home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours.

Please contact your pediatrician if you have any questions. Together we will find a good solution for your child and society.

Coronavirus

3. March 2020

Currently we receive many inquiries about the new coronavirus. For detailed information please follow the link to the official website of the Swiss ministry of health (BAG): https://www.bag.admin.ch/bag/en/home.html

Here you will also find a detailed explanation of the recommended hygiene rules to prevent the infection under „Protect yourself and others”.

If your child is ill and needs medical help please always give us a call before coming to the offices.

We do our best to minimize the risk of virus spread in our offices. We would therefore ask you to keep appointments on time to avoid crowded waiting rooms.

Emergency service

In case of emergency, you should primarily try to reach your paediatrician within the practice.

Otherwise, you can obtain a fee-based consultation through the counselling telephone of the Swiss children’s hospitals, under the number: 0900 008 008

The counsellor will decide with you whether an emergency visit to the Emergency Practice (Notfallpraxis Zug) at the Zug Cantonal Hospital is necessary. He/she will also inform you about the presence of a paediatrician in the emergency practice. The Children’s Hospital Lucerne (Kinderspital Luzern) takes over the care of paediatric emergency at night.

In case of a life-threatening emergency, call 144
